The Way To Select The Very Best Cigar Humidors? Reason #581
6 Cigar Humidification Methods

Now that you have a good comprehension of exactly what a hygrometer does and everything can occur if your humidity is too high or too low, let's discuss how to really control the humidity in your humidor. Regrettably, you can't just use a moist paper towel in a ziplock bag...

1. The Hockey Puck Humidification Method
The unofficial hockey puck method was my very first means to control the humidity in my humidor and boy was it trying. This is the"puck" which is included with humidors the majority of the time and requires one to boil it in propylene glycol. I found it to be a little bit of a guessing game because you have to be sure your"puck" does not run out of juice. It had been mainly stressful since I utilized the crummy free version from my humidor so results may vary. I discovered that I needed to soak the puck every 15 days or so with a humidor of 30 cigars. But once I updated to a Xikar puck, it was smooth sailing. I just had to re-soak each 30-45 days and found it to be more consistent. Soaking a humidor puck is very easy. It takes approximately 30 seconds and you simply buy the propylene glycol separately. This remedy is odorless and just replaces water as a more pure form of moisture. Using tap water may create issues due to chlorine or other substances, and distilled water won't stay moist provided that propylene glycol.

2. The Tubes or Mini Jars Cigar Humidification Method
Xikar and Drymistat make very simple to use products that you may just open and pop it in a humidor such as this
arc 14s. These include a much more controlled method of handling humidity than the puck technique. The only bad thing is that you have to replace these completely most of the time every 3-6 weeks completely. I don't recommend trying to"re-soak" them together with the propylene glycol. The attractiveness of these, especially the tubes, is they don't occupy much room in your humidor. But, depending on the size, the jar format may work better:

3. The Boveda Packs Cigar Humidification Method
Like the tubes or jar out of Xikar and Drymistat, it is possible to go with a very controlled system of Boveda humidity packs. These are my favourite cigar humidification method and ones that I utilize for the tupperdor today. But they can err a little on the high side in terms of humidity if you use them at a tupperdor. I would aim to go a few percentages lower than your preferred humidity as a result when you have a tupperdor. (These packs come in all different humidity levels.) They do a fantastic job of absorbing humidity if it's too high and growing if it is too low. Once your package is stiff, you then just throw it away. That being said, many claim to have the ability to recharge these very easily simply by soaking them for a few days once they become stiff. Although this may be a terrific way to spend less, the recharged packs definitely will not be as precise as a first. To find out more about how to recharge, check out this YouTube tutorial. For me personally, I don't recharge since I'm going to spend hundreds of bucks on cigars, I do not wish to cut any corners to save a few dollars on Boveda packs.

4. The Heartfelt Beads Humidification Method
Heartfelt beads are a common humidity method which many advocate across java forums. This company revolves round these beads and they have a great deal of diehard followers to their product. These are probably one of the more expensive options but last forever. They do need spraying of water following week or two though so you have to abide by a schedule. This method is a bit more geared towards the advanced cigar collectors. Typically, cigar collectors will have a pouch of these beads or a layer at the bottom of their wineador.

5. The Electric Cigar Humidification Method
There's nothing greater than the place it and forget of an electric humidifier, especially in the event that you've got a large or valuable collection. All these are a bit expensive when compared with the other options such as
tower humidor but there's the benefit of very little maintenance. The units work best if plugged -- so you will be asked to conduct a level cable into the exterior of your humidor. However some of those units have a few really cool features like wi-fi capabilities and can humidify around 1,000 cigars! (That could be a lot of Boveda packs...) You really do need to replace the cartridge every 6 -- 12 months but it's comparatively inexpensive.

6. The Kitty Litter Cigar Humidification Method
To get a larger wineador installation, many recommend kitty litter as a viable choice to control humidity. This is a very similar technique to the Heartfelt beads strategy outlined above. The key is to get a kitty litter without a odor and spray on distilled water every two to three weeks as required. I've seen very positive testimonials out of Exquisicat Crystals with very low dust nor odor.
